my little babe is taking an extra long nap right now and I've done my morning to do list so I get to blog! :-)
I thought I would share some things I am lovin right now...

Pumpkin Spice Candle
(i love Yankee candles and but I've found the walmart brands smell really wonderful too, even on a budget!)

Dust Buster:
I used to think this was an old persons toy.  But now that I got a little one that likes to throw food on the floor while eating it has become my go to gadget! My hubby laughs every time I bring it out!

Fall:
Fall is my favorite season.  Carmel Apples, sweatshirts, football, leaves turning, combines driving down the road & apple cider!  bring it on!

I've got more, but I hear a little one talking in the next room.  :-)

18 Lessons From 18 Years of Marriage

{after reading these I have so much to learn, so much to strive for, but i loved this list.}

18 Lessons From 18 Years of Marriage

by Mark Driscoll

Grace’s 18 Lessons {his wife}

  1. Make time with Jesus your first priority, husband second priority.
  2. Be intimate often.
  3. Be willing to have hard and honest conversations, and pray for Jesus to make them fruitful.
  4. Pray for wisdom often.
  5. The enemy is always ready to divide you during trials. Don’t let him; cling to Jesus and each other.
  6. Forgive, forgive, forgive, forgive …
  7. Don’t enable his sin, but pray for wisdom in timing and words, and be respectful when addressing it.
  8. Be a woman of inner and outer beauty.
  9. Make your home a place of retreat and rest.
  10. Study your husband, appreciate, value and respect him, especially when you don’t “feel” like it.
  11. HAVE FUN.
  12. Pray against lies. Memorize the truth of scripture.
  13. Spend regular, meaningful time together. Invest in the relationship.
  14. Don’t let bitterness set in if you are hurt or frustrated; dig up the root and pray it through.
  15. Be an attentive and available listener.
  16. Be teachable and willing to submit.
  17. Set your heart and body toward your husband and don’t let either wander.
  18. Repent often and allow trustworthy people to speak into your lives.

.

Pastor Mark’s 18 lessons after the jump:

Pastor Mark’s 18 Lessons

Spiritual

1. Stay in church community and under godly authority.
2. Stay in your Bible and always have at least a few good Christian books you are reading.
3. Be the spiritual leader by praying with your family, modeling followership of Jesus, repenting of sin, teaching your family, etc.
4. Serve your family and serve others as a family.

Family

5. Pick a good potential mom and grandma for a wife.
6. If she respects you, the kids will too. If she does not, your family will be a grief to you.
7. Work with her to make the home, holidays, vacations, and other times filled with fun, laughter, and memories.
8. Just get through the rough seasons (sickness, demanding newborns, tough work seasons, extended family troubles, e.g.)by God’s grace.

Financial

9. Find an honest way to make enough money to give to God, be generous with others, and take care of your family.
10. Spend some money to make her life easier (dependable car, babysitting help, decent home, e.g.)

Practical

11. Try to make her laugh a lot and touch her heart and soul before you touch her body.
12. She’s not a guy, does not want to be treated like a guy, spoken to like a guy, or do what guys do.
13. She will sanctify you. It’s not her fault that your sin is obvious in relationship with her as she’s not changing you, but rather exposing you.
14. Syncing schedules is key: meet every week to organize your life together and plan out your life as one so you don’t live parallel lives.
15. Date night is important so make it happen, ideally every week.
16. Her needs change, especially when she becomes a mother, so look for new ways to humbly serve her.
17. Encouragement is to a wife as water is to a plant.
18. Every year gets better by the grace of God. Keep pressing forward together using the gospel to repent, forgive, and become more like Jesus.

state fair cookies

Growing up my sisters and i were obsessed with Rogers & Hammerstein's musicals.
Classics.
Particularly State Fair, which was based off the Iowa State Fair.
we go every. single. year.
we're kinda obsessed! :-)

This year my sister Carly & I decided to bake cookies for the State Fair.
It has been something on my bucket list for some time.
Here is a picture of us right before we took them to be judged.
We went with the theme of "go big or go home".  We entered the most popular cookie category with first place winnings up to $300.00!  We didn't win, (but had a lot of fun in the process!)but next year we will try again! :-)
Although, I gotta shout out our friend Deb who entered and got 2nd in her division!  Way to go Deb!!

Homemade Dryer Sheets

Homemade Dryer Sheets.

I have been using this method for a little over 3 weeks now.
{LOVE IT!}
I tried three others that failed, miserably.

What You'll Need:
Container with lid
Fabric Softner
Water
Measuring Cup
3 Sponges

1.) Pour equal contents of Fabric Softner & Water in container.
(i.e.if  you put in 2 cups fabric softner then put in 2 cups water)
2.) Cut sponges in 1/2 so you'll have 6 mini sponges.
3.) Leave to soak til you need them.
4.) When it is time to use them.  Gently squeeze 2 of them (enough to stop the dripping) and insert with your wet clothes into the dryer. When your clothes are dry put the sponges back in the bucket for their next use.
5.) Pull them out of the dryer and enjoy the smell.

Enjoy!

Reuse & Repurpose

i'm on a shoe-string budget.
but I like things to look cute. honestly, what women doesn't?
you know that old yogurt plastic dish you were just going to toss out?!

Turn this...
Into This...

Click here to print the labels & see how its done.
These would be super cute with office supplies: paper clips, staples etc.
enjoy!

Hoo are you Tuesdays

Here are this weeks questions!
From Leslie over at Night Owl Crafting

1. Have you ever broke a bone or anything on your body?
I broke my foot in college.  I was dating this guy and we were horseback riding.  We were riding beside a railroad track and decided to race one another.  Not wanting to be outdone, I took off.  We had roughly raced two block when my horse got spooked and bucked me off.  My foot got caught in between the railroad ties.  ouch.  For those of you wondering, I did win that race! :-)

2. What is your favorite drink?
I have two favorite drinks.  One:  diet mountain dew & strawberry crustal lights.  I don't drink coffee so these are my "go to" drinks.

3. When is your birthday! You don't have to tell the year you were born!
My birthday is in December.  December 12th to be exact.  It gets a little hard having it so close to Christmas but overall Birthdays are a BIG DEAL in our household! :-)

4. Do you have any allergies?
Nope.

5. What is one of your all time favorite movies?
The Notebook.  Love the notebook...  Or Notting Hill.  The part where Hugh Grant tries to climb the fence and says "oopss-a-idaisy" I literally can't. stop. laughing! :-)

Tenant Appreciation Gift(s)

Where we live, last week was apartment turnover.

UGH!

This year we didn't have ANYONE move out of our rentals!

we loved that.
Each year we I try to think of a clever way of saying "thank you" to our tenants who renewed their leases.  This is what we did this year, along with a gift card to Perfect Games.

If you would like to copy this idea like I did, click here!
They were a BIG hit.

a {smile} for your friday!

I love this video.

An elderly couple walked into the lobby of the Mayo Clinic for a checkup and spotted a piano. They've been married for 62 years and he'll be 90 this year. Check out this impromptu performance. We are only as old as we feel, it's all attitude. Enjoy! They certainly do!
